The Alaska Marine Ferry to Juneau and Juneau

Our trip to Juneau was delayed by a broken ramp at the ferry dock, so instead of leaving Thursday night we ended up on stand by for the Friday ferry. We ultimately got on and made it to Juneau at 11:00 pm and in the dark since Summer is waning and the hours of daylight aren't what they were when we first arrived here, and it was raining. Fortunately we had good directions to the campground and were able to pull into our site and cal it a night.

One last look back - Fort Seward on the left, Haines on the right

Saturday we decided to explore Juneau. It was a drizzly overcast day so my plan to take a tram to Mt Robert's was not looking like a good idea. Fortunately downtown wasn't too busy with only one giant cruise ship in port. We found a parking spot and checked out a few shops. Interestingly we also saw 3 pot shops within 3 or 4 blocks. I guess the legislators and cruisers are a big market in this area.

Of course we had to visit the Alaskan Brewery here in Juneau.
Al thinks they make a very good Smoked Porter. There was nothing but beer here so I had water.
Sunday I made a nice breakfast of sausage gravy with eggs and hash browns . . . the setting at our campsite in the USFS Mendenhall Glacier Campground was quiet and peaceful. All of this for $10 a night. . .love having a National Park Service Pass.

Does the view get any better . . . only if a Moose would wander into the picture . . . alas it didn't

Shortly after we left it started to rain again and it rained while we waited for our next ferry.
Next stop Petersburg.
