Palmer : Family, Muskox and The Cache Across America Alaska

We arrived in Palmer Saturday afternoon and settled into our home campground for the next 3 nights  . . .Matanuska River RV Park. It is a very nice clean little park run by the town of Palmer. . . .and a bargain at $25 per night.
We met up with my Cousin Guy and his wife Christie for an evening of catching up, dinner and a local brew pub.

Beers at the Bleeding Heart Brewery. Christie  had The Valley Trash Dirty Blonde, Al had Grounds for Divorce Coffee Porter, and Guy  The Bleeding Heart Beet IPA.

Our Brewery visit was followed by a delicious dinner of Salmon (caught by Guy) and Grilled Veggies.

The sun sets after 11:00 pm. It was after 10 when we realized how late it was . . . . and said our goodbyes.

It was so nice to see my cousin who I have not seen in many years.  We hope they come to see us in Vermont when they retire

It was so nice to be in one place for a few days. . . .we slept in then had a fabulous breakfast of blueberry pancakes and sausage . . . Al also had dippy eggs.
we noticed that camping was not like when we were younger. Most people don't cook or eat outside . . .in fact most people never come out of their RVs except for the Class A guys who seem to be obsessed with cleaning their windshields.
We added the Muskox Farm in Palmer to our list of places to see after hearing about it on Jeopardy. Alex Trebek is a Muskox Farm supporter. They had an interesting and informative tour.

One of the major reasons for coming to Alaska  was the Cache Across America - Alaska our 49th CAA.  Today was the day and we were successful in our  quest.  The  Cache was located at a Palmer Hay Flats State  Wildlife Refuge  . . . .a very nice trail around Reflection Pond

Tomorrow we move on through Anchorage . . . not being city people . . . we don't expect to stop this time . . . maybe on the way back from the Kenai Pennisula.
