We arrived in Fairbanks Friday and the weather for the weekend was predicted to be rainy. We were not too worried about what to do Saturday as after being on the road for 14 days we needed to do laundry, wash a layer of dirt off the van and resupply our fridge and basic supplies. The weather turned out sunny and warm. We finished all of our housekeeping chores and still had time to for some fun.
We went to the Foutainhead Antique Auto Museum
http://www.fountainheadmuseum.com/
It was a fabulous display of cars both fully restored and original condition . . . .there were also period fashions by each of the cars. I could not take pictures that would be better than those in the website. It was a highlight of our day and visit to Fairbanks.
Sunday, once again, was suppose to be rainy but instead turned out to be a fabulous sunny day. We went to the Museum of the North at the University of Alaska
It was a great display of history and nature from each of the regions in Alaska. The campus is beautiful. We did notice however in the parking lot that each spot had an electric outlet to plug in block heaters in the winter. . . a telling sign of colder days and nights.
We also went to the "Antler Arch " for a photo op.
There was a 3.5 mile bike trail that started here and we thought that that would be our plan for Monday as they also had bikes to rent..
Monday brought the rain that was absent all weekend. No bikes, no hikes, the only thing we did was make plans for the upcoming week and weekend and check out some possible campgrounds. A quick trip to the grocery for dinner and last minute supplies to take in Denali tomorrow.
We anticipate being off line for the next few days enjoying Denali National Park.
Love the puctures!
