The Roadteks are the ones with 3 windows. All four of us were from New England . . . weird coincidence.
From Denali we went a little North, back into Nenana Canyon to do a few geocaches . . . the sun was trying to peek through the smokey haze and a nice breeze was blowing.
They have a new walking/bike path over the river and for the more adventurous, rafting on the river. We did not go rafting . . . seems to me that the water would be icy cold after seeing the snow in the mountains still.. You can also make out the train in the background which runs from Fairbanks to Anchorage with sops in Denali and Talkeetna.
From Canyon River we headed South and then turned on the Talkeetna Spur for 14 miles to reach the quaint tourist town of Talkeetna. Our purpose in coming here was not for the tourist shops but it is also home to the Denali Brewpub. Al had Single Engine Red and I had a raspberry mead . . . both were yummy. We also had some Fish and Chips so there was no having to cook at the camper . . yeah!
Talkeetna reminded me of Stowe only Alaska style. Lots of people milling about restaurants and shops and kinda "earthy"
One more thing about those purple flowers that are everywhere known as fireweed. The blooms open from the bottom up and it is said that when the top flowers bloom you need to be ready for winter. In Denali they were already only a few flowers from the top but outside of Talkeetna, where we stopped at a Bakery this morning for some goodies, the flowers were 5' high and still lots of blooms awaiting.
